Celebrating 80 with an unforgettable evening at Cornas!

The Appellation passed its 80-year milestone with panache over the weekend of 29th November 2018.

The 250 guests of the evening included several well-known political figures and oenologists, from the four corners of the world, from Europe, the USA and even Korea. Philippe Faure-Brac, Best Sommelierof the World in 1992 and Chairman of the Union of the French Sommelleriesince 2016Serge Dubs, Best Sommelierof the World in 1989Laurent Derhé, Chairman of the Lyon and Rhone-Alps Association of Sommeliers and Mr Rouget, from Bocuse, or Mr Gauthier, from Pic, thus mingled with Senator Darnaud, Mr Ughetto, President of the Departmental Council, and various other local politicians, restaurant owners or journalists from the national or specialist press.

Chefs from Toquésd’Ardècheprepared an aperitif of festive, original and local nibbles, created to enhance the 2016 Cornas winewhich was served with them. Nothing better for confirming that, while Cornaswines age particularly well, they are also outstanding value when young!

Then it was time for Anne Colombo, Chairwoman of the Appellation, to explain the broad outlines of the prospects and challenges for the coming years, before humorous speeches from the Mayor of Cornas, Mr Bernard Giné,and the Sub-Prefect, Mr Bernard Roudil.

A festive chestnut soup was then served at the table, followed by wonderful Fin Gras du Mézenc beef ribs, particularly appreciated when served with the 2011 and 2012 Cornas wines provided by the wine growers. The dessert, with Valrhona chocolate, followed by a Grand Crucoffee and Chartreuse liqueurs ended this warm, good quality and authentic meal, in keeping with the style of our wines.

During the evening, the Appellation also revealed its new visual, sleek and stylish identity, and the new website that you are currently browsing.

The next day, the professionals were able to take part in a wine-tasting of 2008 Cornasand a visit of the vineyards. Biodiversity and a struggle against Flavescence dorée were discussed on the spot by the passionate AlbéricMazoyer.

In the evening, the Mayor of Cornasorganised a warm and much appreciated torchlight procession.

The weekend was a great success, with the opportunity for oenology and catering professionals to meet the wine growers and have better knowledge of our vineyard. Many have already set a date for a new encounter in the spring!
